Sporting Dogs
Way back then, the sporting dogs are made for hunting birds and for small games which, until now, they are still energetic when it comes in their sports whether in the field or in water hunting. However, this group of dogs requires a regular exercise so that they will not get stressed and weary.
Hound Dogs
These dogs are made for hunting due to their strong senses of sight and smell. They assist hunters by tracking or chasing animals they're looking for. This type of dogs are really friendly and easy to go along with. They also need a regular exercise.
Working Dogs
Working Dogs performs task in assisting human activities such as pulling sleds, managing cattle or guarding a property. This group also requires a regular exercise and they are also a good companions.
Terrier Dogs
Terrier groups are also energetic due to there hunting skills. They dig holes to chase some agricultural pest animals for their master. But nowadays, these dogs are made for house pets and companions.
Toy Dogs
Toy Dogs are small and cute dogs. These dogs comes with a jolly, playful, and loving dogs and they are made as companion pets. Since they are so active dogs, they also need, at least, daily walk around the subdivision or in a plaza.
Non-Sporting Dogs
They are dogs that comes with different personalities and appearances. They vary for coat, personality, overall appearances and sizes. Nowadays, these dogs are for house pet and companion.
Herding Dogs
This group can also be called as working dogs due to their working environment. They are trained for herding and some farm activities. They are also intelligent dogs because can be trained with a command in doing their jobs.
Miscellaneous Group
Miscellaneous group are holding group. As of now there are still few dogs that were recognized by the AKC to be in this group namely Redbone Coonhound, Swedish Vallhund, Tibetan Mastiff, Beauceron and Plott.
